He does need to make very sure he keeps up with the maintenance and cleaning of the flue and pipes. I used to burn pinion and had to clean twice per season or so. The descriptions I had heard of flue fires were seriously scary. After a few years I could tell when it was time to clean it because of airflow, but when I first had the stove I would have no idea. It is one of those safety issues that can't be overstated.
