An updated set of beta installers are now available on the download page. In addition to a handful of bug fixes in the code, the following things have changed:
1. There were some missing files in the Python installers in some of the builds that caused them to not work correctly. Those should now be fixed.
2. The Linux binaries were generated on a different platform (CentOS 5.7), which will hopefully make them compatible with a wider range of distributions.
3. You can now specify command line arguments for the install.sh script, and it passes them along to the setup.py script. What this means is that you can use any of the options described at http://docs.python.org/install/index.html for specifying the installation location. For example, if you are installing on a machine for which you don't have root access, you can type
./install --user
and it will install the Python libraries to a location inside your home directory.
