OpenSim Video and Soccer "Game"

We've created a new video to educate people of all ages and backgrounds about the OpenSim project. The short movie describes how and why we simulate movement and demonstrates how modeling is being applied to help plan surgery for children with cerebral palsy. Please check out the video and share it widely with your colleagues, students, family, and friends. OpenSim News: Release of OpenSim 2.4

The OpenSim team at Stanford is excited to announce the release of OpenSim 2.4, a robust and flexible software package for modeling and simulation of the musculoskeletal system. This release includes improvements to functionality, usability, and visualization that will benefit both new users and experts. We encourage you to download<https://simtk.org/project/xml/downloads.xml?group_id=91> the software and review the full list of new features<https://simtk.org/frs/download.php?file_id=2991> . The software has undergone extensive internal unit and system testing as well as external beta testing with walking, running, and upper extremity motion. In addition, we’ve verified that the results of Computed Muscle Control now match or exceed the quality of those achieved in OpenSim version 1.9.1. Some of the new features in version 2.4 include faster and more robust tools for Inverse Dynamics and Inverse Kinematics, new visualization tools, enhanced access for API users, several usability improvements, and several features to help verify your simulation results. OpenSim 2.4 also has tools to convert old model and setup files to the latest formats. We have fixed several bugs and expanded the documentation. The user’s guide has a chapter on conducting an induced acceleration analysis, which is a faster alternative to a perturbation analysis, and a chapter on getting started as an OpenSim API user. If you haven’t yet tried OpenSim or you are using an earlier vision, we encourage you to give 2.4 a spin. Call for Proposals: NCSRR Pilot Project Program

The National Center for Simulation Research (NCSRR) at Stanford seeks proposals for our inaugural pilot project program. The program awards seed grants to innovative and meritorious projects that will accelerate the use of simulation in rehabilitation research. Our intent is to engage rehabilitation research experts to demonstrate the use of biomechanical simulations in novel areas and to help enhance the OpenSim software for rehabilitation science. Pilot project awardees may request funding (up to $25,000) for their research or access to additional NCSRR resources (e.g., software engineering support). In addition, the program launches awardees into leadership roles within the NCSRR network. Projects should have a strong scientific component and demonstrate a clear alignment with the NCSRR’s mission. Research proposals (up to 3 pages) should provide a scientific description of the project to be performed and convey the impact on rehabilitation and the biomechanical simulation community. Applications must also include a description of funding and other support requested. Dear OpenSim Users, We have several exciting announcements and upcoming events to share with you. *Release of OpenSim 2.2.1 *OpenSim version 2.2.1 is now available for download. The new version contains enhancements to the user interface to show the XML representation of available objects, the ability to set bounds on activations of muscles and various actuators when solving static optimization, and updates to the Joint Reaction analysis. The release includes example setup files to run Static Optimization and Joint Reaction analyses. The OpenSim team at Stanford University is pleased to announce the launch of the *OpenSim Webinar Series* on March 8, 2011 at 9:00 am Pacific Standard Time. The first speaker will be Samuel Hamner from the Neuromuscular Biomechanics Laboratory at Stanford University.
