Webinar on Mechanism of Hamstring Injuries Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 9:00 AM PST We are pleased to announce our upcoming webinar with Reed Gurchiek from Clemson University entitled “Hamstrings Stretch More in Accelerative than Constant-Speed Running.” Hamstring injuries are common in field-based sports with high reinjury rates. Recent evidence suggests they often occur during accelerative running, but investigations of hamstring mechanics have primarily considered constant and high-speed running. Read more and learn how to apply<https://opensimconfluence.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/OpenSim/pages/455278593…> Smartphone video-based analysis sheds light on hamstring injuries Hamstring injuries have been linked to running at high speeds, but researchers from Stanford University and the Restore Center<http://restore.stanford.edu> have demonstrated that hamstrings stretch to greater lengths and at faster speeds during acceleration from lower running speeds compared to maintaining a constant top speed. This may explain why hamstring strain injuries often occur during acceleration and suggests that monitoring during acceleration may also be helpful for injury prevention. The study was performed using the smartphone-based OpenCap<http://opencap.ai> system to capture motion data for the experiment outdoors on a natural running surface, providing more realistic movement data compared to previous treadmill-based studies. The team created a musculoskeletal simulation framework that revealed the cost savings came from the quadriceps, hamstrings, and several muscles that control the hip. Webinar on Software for Automatically Processing and Sharing Motion Capture Data Wednesday, September 20, 2023, 9:00 AM Pacific Time We are pleased to announce our upcoming webinar with Keenon Werling from Stanford University entitled “AddBiomechanics - Lowering the Barriers to Musculoskeletal Modeling and Large-Scale Discoveries in Biomechanics.” He will present an overview of AddBiomechanics<http://addbiomechanics.org>, a freely available web application that automatically generates scaled musculoskeletal models, joint angles, and torque trajectories that best fit your motion capture data. Mr. Werling will cover the validation of the tool, introduce the new inverse dynamics features, discuss the data sharing vision, and guide participants through a hands-on tutorial of uploading and processing motion capture data. There will be three tracks: 1) OpenCap<http://opencap.ai/> or other video-based analysis of movement, 2) OpenSim<https://opensim.stanford.edu/> or other questions about biomechanical modeling, including via IMUs, and 3) machine learning with time series or other movement/rehab data. All phases of a research project are supported, such as formulating a research question, choosing and planning appropriate methods, and addressing issues with carrying out the study. The program awards seed grants to innovative and meritorious projects that will accelerate the use of sensor and video technology in rehabilitation research and will advance real-world monitoring and delivery of medical rehabilitation for individuals with impaired movement. Projects of particular interest are those that use or extend tools that are supported and disseminated by the Restore Center, such as OpenCap<http://opencap.ai>, OpenSense<https://simtk-confluence.stanford.edu:8443/display/OpenSim/OpenSense+-+Kine…>, and Sit2Stand<http://sit2stand.ai>.
