Hi Tim, I think that was a mixup while building the installer, on my part, that led to including a library built with VisualStudio 9 Express. I fixed this in a new installer (beta 6) that I just posted on the downloads page (to replace the older one for VisualStudio 8Pro). I'd really appreciate if you can retest the plugin and let me know how it goes. This was also reported by Moonki. I am using VS8 Pro, and I all plugin dlls are stored in C:\Program Files\OpenSim 2.2\plugins. I have also added this to the path. I am using Windows Vista, but I doubt that has anything to do with the problem as everything worked fine in beta 4. I don't have depends.exe but I can look into getting and trying it. Hi Tim,
Thanks for testing and reporting. Do you have a DependencyWalker (depends.exe?) If so, you can try to load the dll into it and find out which dependencies are missing.
To confirm, you're using 2008 Professional and didn't have the problem using the previous install. Are you using the VC8 or VC9E variant of the installer?
Thanks again, -Ayman ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Dorn" <t.dorn@pgrad.unimelb.edu.au> To: "Ayman Habib" <ahabib@stanford.edu> Sent: Sunday, November 07, 2010 3:30 AM Subject: Re: [Opensim-testers] OpenSim 2.2.0 Release candidate is available for testing
Hi Ayman,
I have tested the install of OpenSim B5 on Windows Vista. Everything installs OK. When I try to compile and test a plugin analysis, it compiles and installs without any problem (I am using VS8 Pro). However the plugin seems to not be found when I type "analyze -L PluginName", despite the dll existing in C:\Program Files\OpenSim 2.2\plugins. It just says "Failed to load library osimPlugin, ERROR- library could not be loaded".
I have also added this directory to the path to no avail. This happens both with my own plugin and the example osimPlugin. The strange thing is that it DOES work when I follow exactly the same steps with Opensim 2.2 Beta 4 (so I doubt I am doing anything wrong). So the fact that the plugin is detected in beta 4 and not beta 5 is strange. Is there something extra I should be doing?
Cheers,
Tim

Dear All,
A release candidate of OpenSim 2.2. has been placed on the downloads page of OpenSim under the package name "OpenSim Release Betas", please give it a spin and send your findings to this list. As of now the release is available on Windows (and built with VisualStudio 8 Professional & VisualStudio 9 Express). Please use the download marked as beta 5. Updated linux and MAC builds of the OpenSim libraries will be available next week. For specific testing activities, I created a list of tasks, available at
https://simtk.org/pm/task.php?group_project_id=935&group_id=91&func=browse
Feel free to pick any subset of these and let us know so that the effort is not duplicated. Just installing the application, and trying the APIExample, plugin or trying to continue your regular use of OpenSim and reporting any issues would be a great help.
The release contains primarily bug fixes and a few changes to the GUI. The User Guide has been updated accordingly.
Thanks all for your time & I sure look forward to your feedback. -Ayman On behalf of the OpenSim team
